Laminate sails

Large-format colour. Same sail character.

TechFoil is printed Mylar-based graphics for laminate sails and 3Di — vivid, practical and designed to add no more weight than paint.

TechFoil · Dry-Paint

A gigantic printed sticker — made from sail material.

The graphics are produced on Mylar film, the same type of material already present in a laminate sail. That keeps the solution thin, stable and predictable without meaningfully changing sail shape.

  • For laminate sails and 3Di
  • Easy mounting in the loft
  • Weight comparable to paint
  • Full-colour, unrestricted artwork
  • One-metre-wide tiles in continuous lengths
  • Helps reduce UV exposure to the sail core

Built for scale.

From a single sponsor mark to artwork across most of the sail, TechFoil makes large graphics practical.

Laminate and 3Di — questions & answers

Straight answers.

The same questions come up on every project. Full versions of these, and more, are on the answers page.

Can you print graphics on laminate and 3Di sails?

Yes. Laminate and 3Di sails take large-format full-colour graphics produced as thin printed Mylar-based film, applied so that the graphic follows the membrane rather than sitting on it as a stiff patch.

Is there a limit to how thick the cloth can be?

There is no lower limit — however thin the cloth, it can be printed. Thick, opaque cloth is the harder case: once light no longer passes through, the graphic has to be printed on both sides, in register, to read correctly from both.

What limits graphics on a membrane sail?

Rarely colour. Thickness and stiffness are the practical limits — anything applied has to stay thin and flexible enough not to work against the fibre layout.

Full answer →
When should the graphics be planned?

Before or during the build where possible, so the artwork and the panel or fibre layout are decided together rather than one being fitted around the other afterwards.
